Local Smoke Free Ordinances In Minnesota

The following counties now have smoke free ordinances. Click on each county name for details.

  • Beltrami - In public places and places of work. Within 10 feet of primary public entrances and exits, open windows and ventilations intakes of public places and places of work.
  • Carlton - In public places and places of work, including food and liquor establishments unless otherwise exempted. Within twenty five feet of entrances, exits, open windows, and ventilation intakes of pubic places and places of work.
  • Hennepin - All indoor areas of food establishments unless otherwise excluded.
  • McLeod - In public places and places of work, including food and liquor establishments unless otherwise exempted. Within ten feet of entrances, exits, open windows, and ventilation intakes of pubic places and places of work.
  • Meeker - Will apply to all public places and places of work, including restaurants, bars and private clubs beginning August 1, 2007. Some exemptions apply until July 31, 2007.
  • Olmsted - All indoor areas of any restaurant and its indoor entrance areas: commonly referred to as vestibules, alcoves, and foyers.
  • Ramsey - All indoor areas of any restaurant and its indoor entrance areas: commonly referred to as vestibules, alcoves, and foyers.

The following communities now have smoke free ordinances. Click on each community name for details.

  • Bloomington - In public places and places of work including outdoor and bar areas of restaurants.
  • Cloquet - The ordinance applies to restaurants, which must become entirely smoke-free; exempts bars; and gives bar/restaurant owners a choice.
  • Duluth - All Restaurants and Restaurants with Bars.
  • Golden Valley - Public places and places of work, including both indoor and outdoor dining areas of liquor and food establishments. Within 25 feet of entrances, exits, ...
  • Hutchinson - All places of employment with more than one employee including restaurants, bars, clubs, outdoor dining and bar areas of food establishments, motels and hotels, and company vehicles used by more than one employee.
  • International Falls - International Falls - All indoor areas of restaurants unless otherwise excluded.
  • Mankato - Mankato - All public places and places of work, including bars and restaurants.
    Some exemptions until July, 2007.
  • Minneapolis - All bowling alleys, pool/billiard halls, and liquor/food establishments.
  • Moorhead - Moorhead will prohibit smoking in all public indoor workplaces beginning December 15, 2004.
  • Moose Lake - The city prohibits smoking in all restaurants.

  • Saint Paul - In restaurants, pool halls, bowling centers, rental halls, bingo halls and licensed liquor establishments.
